What I've been working on

So I've been a bit quite on the blog lately, I've been working on a few orders so I haven't been able to post much. But I just wanted to show a few pieces that I've been working on....

Dirk the Dragon

He's finally finished!, I am pleased to introduce you to Dirk, Dirk the Dragon.

He's the first doll I've made from the Lalylala patterns that I purchased a few weeks ago. I loved the pattern. pretty easy to follow and it was great that there were tons of photos to help me through. (Huge visual learner here).

He even has cute little wings, just adorable. I used Caron Simply Soft yarn in Pagoda (main color), White, and vinyard (his scarf) and crocheted him up using a stainless steel hook size 0.

I can't wait to work up the other patterns I purchased. Stay tuned for more cuteness to come.

Amigurumi obsession

I have discovered the most adorable amigurumi ever!. "What is an Amigurumi?" you may ask, well if you haven't heard of them before:

From Wikipedia:
Amigurumi (編みぐるみ?, lit. crocheted or knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, andnuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll.[1] Amigurumi are typically animals, but can include artistic renderings or inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features,[2] as is typical in Japanese culture.

Well, while I was on Pinterest the other day I came across the most adorable Fox amigurumi. (Ok so I have a fox obsession too, I'm seeking help....maybe)
Click photo to be taken to the Pin

Isn't this just the cutest doll you've ever seen?!?!, well I think so. The pattern is made by Lydia of Lalylala, I jumped right on over to the site and downloaded the pattern. While I was there I discovered SOOooo many more adorable amigurumi's that I just had to get the patterns to and create these adorable little creatures.
She even has a Dragon, Rat, and even a Octopus! I was over joyed. I'm planing on getting the Dragon and Rat to attempt a Zodiac doll for me and Bug and Sprout. I'm a Rat, Sprout is a Dragon, and Bug is a Monkey, I think I may be able to modify the Rat to create a Monkey version (we shall see...).
Anyway just thought I'd share my Obsession with you.

Dress Commission

Well I've been commissioned to make a dress. For an adult. My first thought when I was asked was "Eeeekkkkkk!!!!". I've never really made a dress for anyone other then kids. I've done a few tops here and there but that's it. So I took on the challenge.

I was excited and scared at the same time. I had a deadline of 2 weeks and was on a mission to find nice, flowy, green material.
I swear the workers at Jo-Ann's and Beverly's thought I was a nut. I literally went to both stores sometimes twice in one day for almost 3 day's straight. Coming to the counter's with bolts of green fabric. Lol. I was determined to find the right material. Unfortunately everything I was finding, there wasn't enough of the material that I would need or it wouldn't work for an outside wedding.
I then remembered there was a fabric store in Turlock called Rainbow Fabrics. So after meeting with my customer and  filling her in on the troubles with the fabric, showing her the samples of fabric I could get and then her letting me know what she was looking for and that I pretty much had full reign on material choice as long as it was green I was set, so Sprout, my MIL and I hopped into the truck and headed to Rainbow Fabrics.

Oh lorde when I walked into the store, all I could hear was:
♫♪♫♪ "hallelujah, hallelujah!" ♫♪♫♪
I was shocked at how much material they had. I had only ever been in once before, awhile back, and they were in a smaller building. I found the fabric I needed!, got it home and got to work.

Dress was still in the fitting and editing stage in this photo.

I just finished the dress yesterday. It's actually knee length now, the sleeves are a bit shorter and it doesn't have a low V neckline, like it did here. All in all I think it came out great. My customer seems too like it so that's what matters.

Honor Roll

I am one proud mama. Bug is ending this school year with a bang!. He got Honor Roll. So so proud of my little man. The beginning of this school year was rough. 3rd grade was too. Thankfully both last year and this year we had such awesome teachers that Bug was able to come out swinging. They helped us in working to help Bug do great in school and look at the end result!
HONOR ROLL Baby!! Woot Woot!!

Now he is officially a 5th grader. Way to go little man.

Photo Saturday - GODZILLA!

This past Wednesday My sister, 2 brothers, & my self went to see Godzilla. See growing up we were all huge Godzilla fans. We've seen all the originals, were a bit disappointed with the 90's remake (who am I kidding, Giant iguana is not the "King of Monsters").

It was nice us all getting together.
Sorry for the blurry pic, the theater attendant wasn't very steady

MMM- Napkins and April Creative Dare Update

As always MMM is so much fun. The chat is always hilarious especially when we have all our great mods (moderators) and GM & GD (Glue Mom & Glue Dad) on.
Last night was out of the box. Tracy used printed napkins as her background on her piece. Yes you read that right, NAPKINS. I would have never thought to use that as a craft medium. I of course didn't have any "cool" looking napkins to use or the great stencil she used on the piece, so I stuck with good ole paint. I think a pulled off a pretty good piece despite the lack of said items. What do you think??....

My piece

I also found out that the Creative Dare Piece I submitted for April was chosen. So I get a prize woot woot! I'm so excited to see what I get. I also placed an order for some supplies so I can get more of my painting practice on. *^_^*

Disney Villain's Part 2

Next up, we have :

Dr. Facilier aka: "The Shadow Man"

Madam Mim

Cruella DeVil

Jafar

 Captain Hook

I know there are many more Villan's left to create I'm waiting on a few supplies and payday to get some more paints. So this is not the last you've seen of these great villan's. I may even do another Maleficent version, more like the cartoon like these are. We shall see *^_^*

Art Journal- Disney Villain's Part 1

I've gotten a hang of painting so far I think, it's like drawing, but with a brush. *^_^*
I've been painting in my Art Journal and made a picture of my favorite Disney Villian, Maleficent.

My dear and very close friend asked me to do one of Ursula or some other Villians, so I decided to do just that. I've dedicated a section in my Journal just for these dastardly fiends.

So far I have Ursula and the Evil Queen. I'll keep them coming :)

Mix Media Monday- Life List

Last night's  MMM was so much fun. Tracy talked about her "Life List" and how much she's proud to have crossed quite a bit off over the year's.

She then incorporated her list into the piece she did. I painted a long as well. Though I didn't have my own "Life List" to use, I did have old book pages that I had gotten awhile back from my dear friend Lindsay of Hedgehog & Rabbit. By pure chance I had just picked up the same colors in paints that Tracy ended up using in her piece a few days ago. *score*

Here's what I came up with:

April Creative Dare

This is my first Creative Dare I'm participating in since I started actually trying to paint and get into the whole mixed media works. This months Creative Dare is "Music is in the air" where we had to create a piece and incorporate a song. I chose "Close to you" By: The Carpenters.
Here's my April Creative Dare piece -

New ventures in Mixed Media

So for about the last maybe 6 months I was (and still am) in a sewing rut. I took on Crocheting and Knitting items full time hoping it would help me work out my creative flow, it' didn't. Then I tried my hand in making baby headbands, I found it's not my thing. Sure it's fun, but I just don't see myself doing it long term. On occasion yes but that's were it would end.
I have a desk full of projects that I've made patterns, started sewing, but that's it, all works in progress and well there just hasn't been any progress on them. They just sit there, staring at me with their beady little eyes (no really, some do have eyes). I just can't seem to get going on them. I know this year has been pretty busy. Bug's school has kept us busy. Book reports, mission's, and the regular school work is intense, more so then I remember being in 4th grade. But he's in a good school and can handle the work. I'm just having to learn to juggle his school needs and Sprouts toddler needs. It's work but I am getting there.

So if you happen to follow me on Facebook or Instagram you probably have seen some new posts about Mixed Media. (and if you haven't well you will see some more post soon). I was on Pinterest one day and was looking for some new ideas to get my creativity going. I stumbled upon a Mixed Media art video by Tracy Weinzapfel. She hosts a show on uStream called Mixed Media Monday's.
Photo via Pinterest

I mean when you see this photo, or the one of Tracy jumping off her table in front of a wall full of DecoArt paint aren't you just a bit intrigued?!?. Well I sure was, and boy am I so glad I had clicked on that video.
Every Monday Tracy creates a new piece that you can follow along and paint or just do your own thing. The show is quite fun. She's very down to earth. There's a chat you can participate in, card swaps, a  "creative dare" each month, where she picks a theme and you create a piece and then link it to her blog.
I've recently been trying to get more involved in the chat and I even painted along this past Monday.
 My version of Monday's MMM

All the new people that I get to meet and converse with is a lot of fun too. I think I found a great creative "un-blocker" that I hope will flourish more and more.

Card Swap

I joined a Card Swap. First time with it being complete strangers. Lol. Also a first that I hand painted them all. Wanna see??...... no?,.... well too bad your reading this post so your bound to see a card or two. *insert menacing laugh here*

MIA

I know, I know, I've gone MIA again. Mommy hooded craziness has gotten the better of me. Trying to balance filling orders, a toddler a 4th grader and family life is hard, Did you know that?!?, cause I sure didn't. Why can't their be manuals when it come to, well, life?... is that too much to ask for?. Lol. Just thought I'd put that out there into the universe.

Any-hoo, so yeah, It's coming down towards the end of the school year for Bug, in a couple of weeks he'll be going on Spring Break and we plan on taking a trip to San Francisco to the Zoo, Pier 39, and the Aquarium. It's also Hubbs and my 10yr Anniversary next month. I know what your thinking OMG! 10yrs?! How old are you?? Lol. It's ok, I can't believe it either. It's like 10yrs has just flown by. So we do plan to actually do something for just us this year. I mean, it is kinda a big on to Celebrate right??. *^_^*

Sprout has become little miss Diva. Oh lorde, has she. I always thought oh no, my kid wont go through that phase. Boy did she prove me wrong. Though it isn't as bad as I've seen some kiddos get. Don't get me wrong it's frustrating and exhausting at times. But it's getting better and I'm learning patients.

I'm working on getting some new items into the shop. I know I've said that before. But I've just been in a creative rut and dealing with family life that I haven't been able to kick out anything good enough that I'd want to sell. I have started making Crochet and knit headbands for some of the women that my MIL works with and have made a few flower headbands for some babies. So if those are a big enough hit, I may just put them in the shop as well.

I have been working on some stuffie/lovie patterns that I'm hoping to get the pattern kinks out and good material for so I can start making those to sell. I will update more on that when they're ready.

Well there's a bit of an update for ya'll. Hope to post something again soon so as not to leave everyone hangin'.

Paying it Forward

Today I had some tears brought to my eyes. Nothing bad, they were happy, heartfelt tears.

See this morning the Hub's and I took the little to breakfast at our local Perko's Restaurant. It was your typical Sunday morning, well typical for it being Superbowl Sunday.
We sat down ordered our drinks and got the kiddos settled into coloring and playing tic-tac-toe on their little worksheets. We ordered our food and of course ate when the food came. About halfway through our meal our waitress came up to us to let us know a gentleman had paid our tab, he had asked her not to tell us until after he left.
I was so touched. Hub's and I have payed it forward for other families a few times before, but I myself have never been on the receiving end. It was one of those "So that's what that feels like" moments. It was even more heartfelt when Bug asked who it was because he wanted to thank him. I asked our waitress that if the gentleman happens to come in again to please Thank him for us.
As we finished our meal and got ready to leave we stopped at the register and paid for the older couple's tab that was across from us. I'm a big believer in paying it forward. Today I can finally say for myself it's a wonderful and fulfilling experience to have.
I'm glad to know that there truly is goodness and kindness in this mixed up world we live in.

I hope one day everyone has a chance to have the same feeling as I had had today. Even the smallest gesture as giving someone a smile can change the day of the person on that receiving end.
Thank you kind Sir, whomever you may be.

What's been going on?..

See this is why I have "Lists" things just don't seem to get done when they should. I've been wanting to write and update the blog more often and it seems that is far from happening the way I had hoped.
Nope, in my world it don't work that way. *insert head sway* lol. Things have minds of their own and tend to file out at a snail's pace.

Man this year has just taken off and as of right now I have no idea which way is up, down, left, or sideways. Lol. Welcome to my WORLD, it's a bucket load of crazy with a dash of insane and a pinch of disarray. Then add 2 littles, a husband and a side of two 4 legged critters. Yep that about sums it up.
I have been in such a creative block as of late, that I haven't been able to make anything that I'm happy with at the moment. I did however make a few baby gifts for Bug's 3rd grade teacher and his 4th grade teacher (this year). I crocheted blankets and hats for their "littles to be". (Sadly I didn't get a chance to take pictures before they were given and both the teachers went on leave). *aww nuts :( *
They are both due very soon and we (my husband and I) wanted to do something for them since they both have helped so much in Bug's success at school. We were having a pretty hard time with Bug when it came to school. Don't get me wrong, he is a smart little man, test scores are phenomenal! and he can read and debate like no one's business. We thought the issues were stemming from all the changes within the last 2 years, with Sprout being born and what not, but to our surprise that was only a part of it. The end of last year Bug was diagnosed ADHD but is considered borderline. He's has both ADHD and ADD. I know what your thinking, "What??". That was my thoughts exactly when we were given the news. But now that we know I feel so much better that we were able to get him help. Things are going so much better and he's enjoying school so much more now that he can focus and not be a disruption.

Little Sprout just turned 2! yeah I know "Terrible twos!". But really we haven't had to deal with anything like that.... yet. *knock on wood*  She talks like crazy. Her new saying right now is "I can not believe it!" from the Little Einsteins. But hers comes out "I can no beve it!". It very funny. She also learning the ABC's and the letter sounds she's up to G, then she kinda losses interest but then comes back for Q cause she likes to make the "quack" sound.

Well that's all for now. I hope do update sooner or post some creativity next time. Stay tuned. *^_^*

Happy New Year!!

Can you believe it's all ready a whole new year?!?! I know I can't either. It just creped up on us (the little sneek).
I'm not a big resolution type gal. I have lists, some things get check off and some don't. The things that don't, those get put on the list for the next go around. It'll be done eventually.
* I am hoping to be able to write more on the blog this year.

* I've started a 365 day art/scrap/smash journal. (I do plan on sharing some of my pages).
* Working on "growing up" the Bug N' Sprout logo. (Just like the littles, It needs to grow too)
* Working on some new ventures, I picked up knitting again, really I actually learned the right was to do it. So I'm excited to dive more into that. Mixed Media art is another new one. It goes along with my Journaling I'm starting.
So there's a few of the things on my list for this year. I'm sure it will be expanded upon as the months go on.

Last year we had a lot of hiccups and hurdles in my little mommy- hooded world. From my MIL falling into the deep end of the empty pool, puppy injury, finding out Bug is ADHD, Sprout thinking she works for "Geek Squad" and doing a number on my laptop, my pinky and ring finger of my left hand giving me issues with numbness, to Hubs getting into an accident (he's ok, all car damage). Needless to say 2013 was a insane year. Glad to see it gone. And HELLOOOOOOO! 2014. Let's see what you've got for us.

Here's to new adventures with Bug & Sprout, I'll be your tour guide on this crazy, wacky, & oh so fun ride. Sit back, and HANG ON! *^_^*
